Biographies of Key 'Sex over Sixty' People
Three people were instrumental in the making of the Sex Over Sixty DVD’s.
Saul Cooperman developed the idea for Sex Over Sixty and
how this wonderful educational program would be implemented. He
created the concept and the organization the sought out Dennis
Sugrue, an expert with decades of experience in the area of human
sexuality.
Dr. Sugure conducted the three day seminar with the Sex Over Sixty participants.
George Gallup, for years head of the renowned Gallup Poll, offered to be the national spokesperson for Sex Over Sixty, lending his famous name and impeccable integrity to the effort.
Dr. Saul Cooperman
Dr. Saul Cooperman received his Bachelor of Science degree
from Lafayette College in 1956 and earned both his
master's degree (1964) and his doctorate (1969) from Rutgers University.
Dr. Cooperman has been a classroom teacher, a vice principal, a high school principal and a school superintendent. In July, 1982, he was appointed New Jersey's 21st Commissioner of Education and in that capacity initiated a comprehensive program to raise educational standards in New Jersey, to revitalize the teaching profession and to raise student performance. He served as Commissioner until 1990.
In 1987, Dr. Cooperman was elected to the governing board of the National Assessment of Educational Progress, a federally funded project charged with issuing biennial "Report Cards" on the state of American education. In 1991 he helped create the New American Schools, the nation's largest reform effort of the 1990's. This undertaking was endorsed by President George H.W. Bush and President Bill Clinton. Dr. Cooperman became a board member of the New American Schools, serving as its Secretary and Treasurer.
Dr. Cooperman has made presentations to President George H.W. Bush at Camp David and Presidents Reagan and Clinton at the White House. He was honored with several other educators at a Rose Garden ceremony for his work in education by President George H.W. Bush.
In July, 1990 he became President and CEO of the READY Foundation, which provided educational assistance for inner-city Newark youth. In 2004 Dr. Cooperman created the Academy for Teaching and Leadership, an organization that improves the performance of teachers and administrators.
Dr. Cooperman is author of the book, How Schools Really
Work, which explains why schools succeed or fail and gives clear direction
to parents to improve their schools. He is author of 64 published articles and
has been listed in Who's Who in America
since 1984.
Dr. Cooperman was married for 46 years to Paulette, who died in 2004. He has three children, Suzanne, Deborah, and David. He lives in Bernardsville, NJ.

George Gallup has been in the field of polling for fifty years, 1954 to 2004. He served as Chairman of the Gallup organization and Co-Director of the Gallup Poll. He is the founding Chairman of the "George H. Gallup International Institute," The mission of the Institute is to discover, test, and implement new social ideas to benefit society. Annual Ideas for Progress seminars were convened by Mr. Gallup and his wife, Kingsley, with presentations by national leaders representing health, education, the environment, and religion.
Mr. Gallup is a frequent speaker at conferences dealing with business, religion, education, politics, social issues and other areas. He has lectured at more than 150 college campuses.
He has served on numerous boards dealing with family and youth issues, drug abuse, volunteerism, journalism and other areas. Among these are: The John T. Templeton Foundation, and the jury of those charged with selecting recipients of the annual Templeton Award; the National Fatherhood Initiative; a member of the jury that selects All American Cities; Quill &I Scroll Society- an International Honorary Society for High School Journalists- serving as Chairman from 1984 to 2004.
A few of Mr. Gallup's Awards and Recognitions:
- By President Jimmy Carter for contributions to the 1980 White House Conference on Children and Families.
- National Chairman in 1985 of the Your Opinion Counts campaign, an industry-wide effort to curb abuses in the field of survey research, as well as to encourage participation in surveys.
- 1994 recipient of Charles E. Wilson Award, which recognizes "business leaders whose lives demonstrate distinction in career, devotion to religion, and dedication to humanity."
- 2000 recipient of the Bethune-DuBois Institute Award, given "in recognition of a lifetime of internationally acclaimed accomplishments in research and studies on youth, health, religion, race and urban affairs."
- 2005 recipient of the award given by The National Fatherhood Initiative for service to the cause of fatherhood.
Mr. Gallup is a graduate of Princeton University. He is married to the former Kingsley Hubby and lives near Princeton, New Jersey. They have three children: Alison, George and Kingsley.

Dr. Dennis Sugrue is a clinical psychologist and Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Michigan Medical School. He completed his undergraduate work at Sacred Heart Seminary and received a Master of Arts Degree in Religious Studies from the University of Detroit. He received a Master of Science Degree in Experimental Psychology from Eastern Michigan University and completed his doctoral studies in clinical psychology at the University of Windsor. His private practice is located in Bloomfield Hills, MI. Previously, Dr. Sugrue was Associate Division Chief of Outpatient Psychiatry for the Henry Ford Health System.
Dr. Sugrue, a recognized expert in human sexuality, is listed in Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the World for his contributions to the field. He was the founder and former co-director of the Henry Ford Center for Human Sexuality. He lectures on sexual issues across the United States and at international conferences and is often quoted in the popular media including Ladies Home Journal, Parents' Magazine, Esquire, Cosmo, and Glamour.
Dr. Sugrue is a past President of the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT), the nation's largest credentialing organization for professionals specializing in human sexuality. He has authored journal articles and textbook chapters, serves on the editorial board for the journal Sexual Addiction and Compulsivity, and co-authored Sex Matters for Women?A Complete Guide for Taking Care of Your Sexual Self, published in 2002 by the Guilford Press.
His wife, Bernadette, is an Associate Superintendent for Catholic Schools in Metropolitan Detroit. They have been married 31 years and have two adult sons, Dennis and Sean.
